Celebrities, including Reese Witherspoon, Freida Pinto, and Marion Cotillard, rocked glam ponytails to Red Carpet events at Cannes Film Festival. While celebrities are the perfect source to look for inspiration on trying out new looks for ourselves, it seems that the celebs actually stole this trend right off the runways of New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012. Here’s a few of the creative ponytails designers chose for their models at Fashion Week.
Ralph Lauren chose a classic, conventional ponytail.
Marchesa went with a unique, part pony, part fishtail combination.
At Carolina Herrera, hair was parted down the middle and placed in a ponytail, which was then tucked under and wrapped around the hair elastic. This low pony style sits low near the nape of the neck.
Marc by Marc Jacobs’ models had sleek, high ponytails accessorized with teased volume and silver clips. Another Marc Jacobs model pulled off a pony bun.
At Herve Leger, models wore a 3 part pony for a tribal, architectural feel to complement the structured clothes.

Temperley opted for sleek, high and wrapped ponies.
Michael Kors added volume mixed with braids to create a ponytail look like no other.
At Missoni, ponytails were pulled half way through the hair tie.
60’s inspiration came into play when creating the side wrapped pony at Erin Fetherston.
Spring 2012 New York Fashion Week definitely showed creative ponytails. Celebrities already took notice and copied this trend at the Cannes Film Fest. I’m loving the Marchesa fishtail pony and the Carolina Herrera tucked look. Will you try out the ponytail trend this summer? Which take on the classic pony do you like best from Fashion Week?
