Ponytail Hairstyle Ideas and Accessories

Having a bad hair day? Look no further than different variations of the ponytail for your hairstyle solution. At 2012 New York Fashion Week and at Cannes Film Festival, we saw a ponytail trend among models on the runway and celebs on the red carpet. A big pony trend has been to wrap hair around the ponytail to hide the elastic. Here’s a few options we found on Pinterest.

Today I was in H&M and saw these pony cuffs that would be a great alternative to wrapping hair around the hair rubber band. They are available in a variety of metals including gold, silver, and rose gold for a reasonable price around $5. Cuffs are a great way to accessorize your pony for a glam high-fashion look.

Adding accessories to hairstyles is so trendy with celebrities. Kristen Stewart wore gold chain in her chignon at a recent event, and Elizabeth Banks went with gold gilded birds in her hair twist at her new movie premiere.  Below you see a couple more ponytail accessory options, such as Kim Kardashian’s hanging chain and the leather hair tie from the runways of Reed Krakoff.

Another option is to use leather straps, garland or ribbon to wrap around the ponytail or to intertwine through a pony braid.

There are so many possibilities to accessorize your hair. If accessories aren’t your thing, you can always show your personality by trying a new variation of the traditional ponytail. Here’s a couple of chic options.

Don’t forget to check out our previous posts on ponytails ( Ponytail Trend: Inspired by Spring 2012 NY Fashion Week and Hot Hair Trend: Cannes 2012 ) to see styles that designers and celebrities love. Also follow our Pinterest boards for updates on hairstyle ideas. We have pin boards for Hair, Braids, and Ponytails. So the next time you need to hide a bad hair day with a quick style on the go, try one of these new ponytails. A ponytail is no longer just for the gym, and it a style that that’s here to stay given that it was featured at fashion week for both Spring and Fall 2012.

I’ll leave you with a great Bella Sugar how-to instruction video from hair stylist to the stars Ken Paves. Ken shows how to recreate a wrapped ponytail braid (with or without hair extensions). This is a favorite for his clients Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado.

  1. Thankfully my hair is too short to have to worry about a bad hair day, but I do love these styles. Simple, yet very sexy!
